Shirley was a first cousin of our father Earle. She provided support to our family with her nursing skills and made us happy with her sense of humor whenever she was with us. Her kindness and strength never wavered when it came to helping others. We have very fond memories of our Cousin.

Shirley and I have been great friends for the 34 years that I lived at the Barriefield I left for BC in 2019. I can’t tell you how many good times we’ve had because there’s not enough room to write them all down from our Christmas cruise to always celebrating our birthdays at the best restaurants in in town or Westport Gananaoque we really treated ourselves. Rest in peace, my friend, you deserve it!

The Bissonnette family would like to send our condolences to all of Shirley's family. George and Shirley shared so many happy times with Shirley at the Barriefield. From belly dancing, Monday morning coffee, and attending parties in the lounge. Shirley always had an amazing smile to greet us all. God Bless.

Shirley and my father (Girvan Fraser) were high school sweethearts who re-united later in life and spent more than thirty years together. I cannot thank Shirley enough for her loving care of my father, especially during his later years of poor health. She gave so much of herself to everyone she knew and she will be greatly missed by her Fraser family.

It is with deep respect and fond remembrance that we mark the passing of Shirley Greenshields, our most senior resident at The Barriefield. Shirley was a remarkable individual whose wisdom, humour, and grace left an indelible impression on all who had the privilege to know her.
Among the many conversations I shared with Shirley, one moment stands out—a testament to her insight and wit. While we were discussing Canadian politics, I let my sarcasm slip into the conversation. With her trademark sharpness and a twinkle in her eye, Shirley gently reminded me, “Careful, James, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.” It was a perfect Shirley moment: a subtle nudge to elevate the dialogue and see the humour and humanity in life's challenges without descending into cynicism.
Shirley's presence enriched our community. She inspired us to approach life with curiosity, compassion, and a healthy dose of wisdom. We will miss her dearly, but her memory and words of wisdom will continue to resonate in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Shirley. Your light will always shine in The Barriefield.
